Akrotíri, Kikladhes, Greece

August 5, 2017

One of the most important archeological settlements (yet, not as much advertised as others) of Greek civilization is akrotiri in Santorini. Akrotiri was a famous port before the catastrophic earthquake in 1560 BC and it has been characterized as the Pompeii of Greece. The archeological excavation is in progress and archeologists reveal slowly the way of life of the citizens of the ancient city before the earthquake.

An amazing place, truly a testament to the advancements of Greek technology and history which irrefutably paved the way for life as we knkw it today… running water, lavatories, communal bath houses and three storey homes…. at a time when most cultures were yet to discover fire, the Greeks had perfected it as a weapon (Greek Fire) as a cooking tool and as a building and manufacturing tool (bricks and pottery). Credit goes where credit deserves, this is one of the most significant historical finds on our globe!
