Zeus selected Aeolus to become the ruler of the winds and granted him with the power to calm or arouse all winds. When Odysseus visit the island of Aeolus and stayed there for a month, Aeolus placed all the winds in a bag and gave the bag to Odysseus letting free only the mild wind Zephyrus that help Odysseus to reach near Ithaca. The comrades of Odysseus thought that this bag was full of gold and when Odysseus fell asleep they open the bag and all the winds set free. Then a great storm went off and drive them away from Ithaca.
