Mirabello Bay


Mirabello Bay is the larger bay of Crete and held a strategically important role in the past. A Genoveze pirate named Pescatore built a fortress in order to observe and protect the bay. Because of the amazing view this tower was offering they called the fortress mirabello (Latin for 'it's beautiful' ) or kalithea (Greek for 'nice view'). The bay took its name from this.
