Bálos
Balos while is one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete has a disadvantage. During the very hot days, you can sense an unpleasant smell due to the muddy and shallow waters. The smell becomes noticeable especially the days with no wind. Fortunately, even the smallest breeze makes the smell to go away. In case you are in Balos and you can tolerate the smell just keep your distance from the shallow waters and prefer the open deep blue sea outside of the lagoon.

The other disadvantage in peak season were the ferries of tourists from 11am … the best bit for us was the climb up and down to get to and from the beach… the views when you fisrt see Balos are breathtaking

@theworldwithkids yes. You will better enjoy places like Balos off season. Especially for Balos early in April is a perfect time to visit
