In 2002, the producers of BBC radio 1 wrote on their website: "This is not all party party party […] This is where Ayia Napa comes into its own. Nissi beach is excellent, though don't expect to see a grain of sand during daytime – it's packed with bodies bathing in the sun. […] It's a scene based on the skimpiest of bikinis, six-pack stomachs, Gucci shorts, and Armani flip flops". This publicity made Agia Napa and specifically Nissi Beach very popular for British tourists through the following years.
