Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Sofia

Alexander Nevsky cathedral in Sofia occupies an area more than 3.000 square meters and can hold more than 10.000 people inside which makes it one of the largest orthodox churches in the world. Its 12 bells of total weight of 23 tons, are rang by Maria Zabova, a 85+ years old woman that does this for the last 35 years.

Vitosha Boulevard

Sofia in Bulgaria, one of the oldest inhabited places in Europe, is located in the middle of Balkan peninsula and it is a very nice and welcoming city. Vitoshka is the busiest pedestrian street in the city and is considered to be the trade center of Sofia. If you happen to walk to Vitoshka on a spring Sunday don't forget to sit and enjoy an iced coffee. If you are Greek you will be lucky because they also serve frappe.

The statue of Sveta Sofia built in 2000 and replaced a statue of Lenin. Much controversial between the locals about this statue because the erotic appearance of it doesn't look appropriate to a Christian Saint. It is possible that the sculptor wanted to show the attractiveness of wisdom (sophia in Greek)

Russian Church, Sofia

The church of Saint Nicholas the miracle-maker, or most commonly known in Sofia, the Russian church was built after the liberation of Bulgaria by the Russians from Ottoman empire. It was built in 1910s on the site of a saray mosque which was destroyed during the liberation.

St Nedelya Church

In the heart of the Sofia city the square of St Nedelya is located. A meeting place for many locals, the square is at the beginning of the busy Vitoshka pedestrian street. The name of the square comes from the majestic church located there. Presidency Sofia

In front of Bulgaria Presidency building two members of the presidential guard watch and protect the president and the democracy. They usually wear a red uniform and a hat with an feather from an eagle that symbolizes the proud spirit of Bulgarians.
